Services Because of the shorter lifespan of our pets, we stress the importance of an annual physical examination. Thorough checkups and preventive care can help alleviate serious health problems. We offer a wide range of veterinary services to keep your companions feeling their best: Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services: Our hospital is equipped to provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to care for your pets' complete health care needs. Offering your pet the option of less pain and recovery time with laparoscopic spays
What is laparoscopy? Laparoscopy is a minimally invasive technique for viewing the internal structures of the abdomen. A camera (laparoscope) is inserted through a small incision in the abdomen and it's images are relayed in a magnified form to a television screen. This technology breakthrough allows for a less traumatic and less painful alternative to traditional spays.
How is this different from a traditional spay? Traditional spays involve a 2" to 3" or larger incision in the abdomen. They also require significant tension on the ovaries and uterus which may cause trauma and bleeding. In a laparoscopic spay the procedure is done through a few tiny incisions rather than a large abdominal opening. Smaller incisions are less painful and require less time to heal.
Why would this be a good choice for my pet? A laprascopic spay might be the better choice for your pet if you have an extremely active dog that might be hard to keep calm during the recovery period. If you have a high stress pet, recent studies have shown that this procedure causes less surgical stress and up to 65% less post-operative pain than a traditional spay. If you have a larger breed dog and a re considering a gastropexy, it can be preformed at the time of the spay.
Ridgetop Animal Hospital is always striving to learn new techniques and acquire new technology to provide your pet with the best possible and most advanced care. If you have more questions regarding the laparoscopic spay procedure or wish to speak with a doctor to see if it is the best option for your pet, please don't hesitate to contact our office. Anesthesia: We utilize the safest available anesthetics to provide an extra margin of safety, especially for our older or high-risk patients. The patient's vital signs are monitored during all anesthetic procedures, using the most modern equipment. Lasers: Lasers are a minimally invasive alternative to traditional surgery. Lasers replace scalpels in many procedures and are useful for a wide range of conditions, such as cyst, tumor and wart removal, and and can be used in declawing. Laser procedures result in less pain, less bleeding, and less swelling. They reduce the risk of infection and result in less post-operative discomfort. Endoscopy: The latest in Endoscopy yields complex diagnoses and improves treatment outcomes. High-tech fiber-optics permits direct visual examination and biopsies of your pet's gastrointestinal system. This allows for more accurate diagnosis and treatment of oral, esophageal, stomach, colon and even upper intestinal tract disease. Foreign objects can also be removed without the need for surgery. Ultrasound: We offer the latest technology in ultrasound which yields complex diagnoses. This non-invasive, state of the art technology uses soundwaves to painlessly examine specific internal organs, primarily the heart and abdominal organs. Pregnancy exams are also available. Radiology Services: Our state of the art digital radiograph system shows results in seconds and allows easy referral for a review by a board certified radiologist if needed. Radiology, or x-rays, help our veterinarians evaluate muscular-skeletal, cardiovascular (cardiopulmonary), gastrointestinal, reproductive and urinary systems. Electrocardiography Services: We provide ECG services on-site as well as consultations with cardiology specialists. Dentistry: Regular professional cleaning is important to maintaining your pet's teeth. We use modern and safe ultrasound to clean each tooth thoroughly, above and below the gum line.
